The vineyards of the Penedés
region are just a short drive from Barcelona away.
Known also as the 'Land of Cava'
(Cava is the official name for Spain's sparkling wine), this region
offers you the chance to visit one of the oldest and most interesting
wineries.
The Codorniu Winery is an
outstanding example of Modernist architecture combining creativity with
functionality and emphasising respect for the natural environment.
During your guided tour around
the winery you'll be able to learn all about the wine making process and
the individual characteristics that make Cava a classic wine.
The tour continues to the
Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat.
Montserrat is a strange jutting mass of rock,
smoothed by wind and rain over thousands of years. Clinging to its steep
slopes is a Benedictine monastery. A spiritual beacon to the Catalans,
the monastery is dedicated to the Black Virgin of Montserrat, the
dark-skinned patron saint of Catalonia.
